The bad: Occasional menu slowdowns; no MP3 playback; soft speakerphone.
The bottom line: Generally well-implemented Symbian functionality in a solidly constructed clamshell.

oriental look smarphone
May 17, 2006Rating: 8 out of 10 (Excellent)
Pros: good connectivity options, clear resolution, sleek design, hot-swappable microSD
Cons: difficult irDA, bad video camera, prone to scratches
Opinion:
a hybrid phone from finnish giant and japanese manufacturer, the Panasonic X700 uses Nokia S60 platform while its components are Japanese made. Using Symbian 7.0 and 2nd Ed. Series 60 platform, this flagship 2004 smartphone from Panasonic boasts a feature-rich system. 3rd party applications can be easily installed thanks to S60 platform. however, the phone suffers from bad irDA connection and pixelated video recording with lags. messages can't be saved to memory card unlike other nokia devices. outer clam cover are prone to scratches especially its outer lcd cover. and the silver outlining are easily chipped off. despite these cons, the X700 nonetheless is a great phone with great functions.

I've had the software updated and am getting 3-4 days out of the battery now. Also the menu is quicker. So some improvements and the rebooting has stopped--for now. We'll see when I reload some tones and stuff that were deleted by Panasonic service. So an improvement but the poor sound and flimsy hinge remain.
hybrid phone of Japan and Europe?

With its symbian 60 platform and user-friendly menus, I can't believe I'm using a Panasonic unit rather than a Nokia. One can't really tell the difference! Aside from having a short battery life and difficult IrDA port and poor video recording, the X700 boasts a lot of powerful features. It has a sharp color screen with good, and I must say GOOD, resolution. Its handy Quickoffice helps me edit computer files like ppt presentations. The photolight works great. Swappable miniSD is a good thing, too! Plus, just like a Nokia Symbian phone, you can add applications, too, by using Bluetooth or IrDA or even cable that comes in the package! Its components are even Japanese made which makes its technology superior to a typical Nokia. Man, this phone really rocks, not to mention its stylish Jphone-like clamshell design! No wonder its called a SMART PHONE! You got to have this one... a bit pricey, though, but it's all worth it!
