By John Chan, CNET Asia

Remember the old Compaq iPaqs? HTC made them.
Five years ago, you were likely to receive a blank stare from most people if you mentioned the company HTC. The Taiwan manufacturer has been in existence since 1997, but in its early days, HTC's business was purely OEM, meaning it made devices for more prominent brands. One of the earliest product made by the company is pictured here, a Compaq Pocket PC.

Even though HTC still produces devices for other marques, its own brand name is much more prominent these days as one of the leading producers of smartphones. HTC even has the honor of being the first company to launch an Android device.

  • Touch
  • Touch and Type
  • Type
