Nokia E66, E65, E51, E71 and E61i, fight!

By Damian Koh

Nokia may have ended speculation on its QWERTY candybar E71 and slider E66 today, but ever wondered how the new Eseries devices look like compared with their predecessors? We happen to have both the E65 and E61i at the same time to give you this quick and dirty hands-on. The lighting conditions at the event weren't perfect for photo-taking, so just bear with the noise in the images until we get the proper units into our Labs for a thorough rubdown.

First up is the E61i on the left and the E71 on the right. As you can see, the E71 has a much smaller width compared with the E61i. If you are wondering whether the smaller-sized keyboard will affect typing, the answer is yes and no. It will take a little while to get up to speed with the new keyboard, but the good thing is it comes with built-in auto correction, so that should minimize typing errors until you get used to the QWERTY.

I think I'll take iPhone over these Nokias. Sorry Nokia, but these 2 models just doesn't "look it"! I'm guessing the price won't be much competition to iPhone also... and this is a comment from me, a Nokia lover... sigh...

Haha i agree with tigervyh, on the looks part of it
though i've never been a Nokia lover.
Nokia has lost on the design front, media (marketing) front, price point, userbility, interface... well interface and UI says it all.. once king, now... only has a market share to boost about, just like a failed Vista, all the "wow" but an empty shell

Can you say "scientific calculator?" ;)

Is it just me, or is the E71 pretty ugly ??

Okay I have to butt in and say that my pictures didn't do a lot of justice to the phones because I was taking them onsite and the lighting conditions were, well, not perfect for pictures.. I'll update when I take proper comparison shots in our Labs..

take an iPhone or a Jessical alba in bad lighting ,and onsite and you still won't get an ugly iPhone or a britney,

Looks aside, Nokia doesn't have a pretty pretty and easy to use UI, that, no photographer can correct in any amount of DI or lighting.

Well, the E71 looks quite in line the E51, which means plenty of steel and solid plastic. And, if the QWERTY keyboard is just as tactile as the E51's keypad, typing on the E71 shouldn't be too much a problem.

It's the rather thin menu selector keys and the call receive/send keys which are quite thin and may not be suitable for users with bigger fingers. And the keys on the corners look a bit... uh... squashed. Or tapered. Is this a sacrifice to maintain the sleek(er) look? Will it compromise usability? How? How?? How???

No choice. Must wait for review.

The E66 looks way better than the E65 and with the 3.2 megapixel camera it will also be able to attract the mainstream users.

Wonder if it has a 3.5mm jack....

I personally do not like how E71 looks like

I think the E series is getting more and more uglier than before.
