Samsung aims for 25-percent regional market shareSINGAPORE--Samsung is looking to snare more than 25 percent of the handset market share in Southeast Asia and Oceania in 2008, up from 14 percent last year. This is equivalent to sales of approximately 20 million handsets in the region.
A total of 11 models were showcased at the event where the Korean chaebol unveiled its new market segmentation model that comprises six categories: Infotainment, Business, Style, Multimedia, Connected and Essential. The company also intends to engage consumers on multiple platforms, including the possibility of partnerships with local music labels to launch co-branded portals targeted at local music communities. Meanwhile, Nokia is expected to make a music-related announcement in Singapore next week on April 29.
