The details for both phones, particularly their prices, may change before we see them in stores.
For business users, the inclusion of push email via Microsoft Exchange on both devices makes the decision very difficult. Editable Office documents (Word, Excel and Powerpoint), the QWERTY keyboard and HSPA data speeds will be very important to some users, and may edge the XPERIA X1 out in front.
At the end of the day the real battle may come down to the 3rd party applications available. If the Apple App Store fills with cheap and useful applications then there's no telling how business-friendly the iPhone could become. There's already a wealth of 3rd party apps already available for the Windows Mobile platform.
We'd like to hear your thoughts on the iPhone versus the competition. Leave your comments below and let us know what you think.

Just a small orrection - If the Experia runs wm 6.1, it will also automatically have threaded SMS.

the X-1 will run on windows 6.1 which i'm already using.
windows 6.1 has threaded text so you need to change your table to reflect that. The only advantage the iphone has is the rotation gimmik. Aside from that the x-1 wins hands down.
the amount of software, (free), and mods for windows phones is unbelievable. Also until the next i-phone update, it will have no GPS or 3G. This is useless for a business phone.
iphone for style, sony for substance!
Mar 31, 2008 17:09
sony has substance too! :o)
cant wait for the X1!

hey surur and tuntang, thanks for highlighting.. have made the necessary correction

Another correction: "US$399 - 8GB, US$499 8GB (~AU$430, AU$590) - 2 year contract." It really doesn't make sense. Did you guys mean $499 for 16GB?

UBIQUITOUS is a word coined for technologies scope & potential. as tech per se continue to develop with an ever-increasing user-friendliness (thanks to miniaturization), more & more folks are becoming tech-savvy & less fearful of using pc-related gadgets in their everyday lives, even providing a liberating experience to the novice techno user nowadays. it would be interesting to see how these (competing) UI-user interface would change how people relate their needs to their chosen gadget(not vice-versa). the SE-Xperia now seems to offer an AIO package enticing to WM users who would choose the slow path to Appleness or Googleness, a bridging hardware (necessity) with qwerty & all features you might need (for now)...but wait for the iPhone evolution next.

Look at the X1 screen!!! Are those specs right? That's twice the pixel density of a W850, or 4x that of a standard 1600x1200 20" TFT. It has the same resolution as an EEE. So with the the qwerty keyboard I guess the X1 replaces both the iPhone & EEE.

All in favor of Xperia Hands UP !! I thought so, Everyone. Cause the hype for Iphone is so over now ..
May 05, 2008 23:04
over ?? i highly doubt so. everyone, from the big boys, engadget , CNET, BBC to the little players of countless forums all over the world is still talking about the iPhone, the fact that every other phone manufacturer has copied, tried to upseat and even windows have been shaken so much that they have released a "seriously" upgrade WM 6.1, not WM7 hor. only 0.1 ... like 3MP and 3.2 MP phones... like duh !!!
May 28, 2008 00:06
A very simple fact that the iPhone has win hands down is that CNET has used it in its prize fight compared to every single phone... what more can you say... it has garnered soooooooooooo much attention and hundreds of millions of dollars in free advertising. Has any of the phone , X1, diamond, N95, garnered soooo much attention ? No
May 28, 2008 00:03
IPHONE does have the attention but in terms of functionality even over the past few "evolutions" and "software updates/upgrades", do you think that the price tag compensates for its use?
No video call, no video capture, no flash, no mms, and by the time you have a dead battery, how do you replace it?
Features wise, what are you after in the IPHONE that other HIGH-END mobile phones or smartphones don't have? The 8GB memory? 16GB? Touchscreen feature? WI-FI capability? .... Simply put, IPOD touch + internet, sms, daylight still shot camera... and phone call capability.

Couldn't resist joining in this discussion. As I had the opportunity to see X1 up close, the resolution of screen is correct. The product has a stainless steel case, nice weight and feel, very premium and comes in black or silver (I hope black will be available). Ultimately, Apple does have great products due to design and style, but I think you really need to see X1 up close to appreciate it is going to be very different from the typical smart phone we see now. Whether performance of windows lives up to the expectation, we should see soon...I am saving up for this as my Xmas present!

I think the Xperia will be a good hybrid of entertinment and work related stuff in a neat package
Jul 20, 2008 14:46
It is pretty obvious from the chart that Xperia X1 beats the crap out of the Iphone. Sometimes branding is pretty important but you don't neccesary get the best from a popular brand. Apple created a lot of hype for its Iphone but the end product was pretty mediocre. I can't wait for the Xperia X1 to be available in Malaysia.....Cheers!

Yeah, people still talk a lot about IPhone to deny how stupid it was to fall in long lines as voluntary victims to this monumental ripoff. Its good to have real competition stepping up to the plate to balance a pair of companies' abuse of media to prey on gullible _____(Insert your own derogatory noun). Mobile technology has become cheaper by the day, it is unfortunate that guys like Apple and AT&T will create every opportunity to make it expensive.
Sep 26, 2008 10:59
Did somebody already mention that you can't record videos with the iphone too? X1 rocks!
Oct 21, 2008 18:37
I got my X1 this week, chose the black model and it is really cool. Only problem is no chinese text support, which is a pain if u want to playback chinese songs or the occasional chinese SMS. Other than that, love it! Yippee
Nov 26, 2008 17:35
Im getting the x1 on monday i cant wait
:)
Nov 29, 2008 17:43
I love iphone, but waiting for x1 the memory is the issue.
