Sony Ericsson debuts seven at MWC

By John Chan

BARCELONA, SPAIN--When Sony Ericsson announces many new mobile phones at one time, you can expect updates to its Cyber-shot and Walkman lines of products. And so it does. The night before the Mobile World Congress starts, the Japanese-Swedish company unveiled seven new products including one surprise: A PDA-phone using the Windows Mobile 6 Professional OS.

Two imaging-focused handsets have been added to the Cyber-shot family, the C702 and C902. The first thing you'd notice is the new naming convention, starting with a letter C instead of the K as was with previous models like the K850i. The C702 has a splash- and dust- resistant body with a sliding lens cover which protects a 3.2-megapixel camera lens. It comes with GPS built-in and has a feature that makes it possible for you to track where each photo was taken.

The C902 has a slim design with a hidden pull-out 5-megapixel camera that looks vaguely like Sony's own Cyber-shot digicams. It also comes with GPS and has a thickness of just 10.5mm, making it the slimmest Cyber-shot device from Sony Ericsson yet. Neither of these devices has optical zoom, though on the connectivity front, it's good to know that they both support HSDPA.

Excellent Seven ... The one to look out for probably will be the G900 and X1. Both touchscreen based PDA/Smartphones. G900 on Symbian with 5MP Camera and X1 on WM6 Pro with 3.2 MP Camera.

The Z770i also is being promoted with MS Exchange Active Sync. Looks like the Razr type of Design. The C (Cybershot) series look good too. Design on the W980 is marvellous.

We can certainly see SonyEricsson taking no3 spot this year and probably no2 by end 2009! Motorola and Samsung needs more innovative products and not overhauls from their exisiting models.

Let's now wait for Nokia to announce their lineup!

SE drew 1st blood & now let see what big brother from Finland have under their sleeves...a black version of N 82, a confirmed N96...all that deemed DEJA-VU..so ...

NOKIA ,...the ball is at your feet now..

A great line-up! Sony Ericsson's scintillating seven indeed!

I'm excited about the XPERIA X1 but I'm sure it will cost an arm and a leg. The W980i and G900i look promising as well.

It will be interesting to see how Finland's Nokia and South Korea's Samsung will react to these new products. Forget Motorola, innovation has completely left that company.

If ever Moto comes up with a new product, I'm betting it will again be another iteration of their already tiresome RAZR line.

Go SE!
