Mega Man and Street Fighter could be among titles for new N-Gage

By Damian Koh, CNET Asia

With several blockbuster game titles such as Street Fighter, Mega Man, Resident Evil and Dino Crisis under its belt, Capcom has today announced its commitment to the new and upcoming N-Gage platform, the latter to be unveiled globally on August 29. New games from the gaming developer are expected to be available on selected devices in 2008.

"Capcom is dedicated to creating great mobile games and believes that N-Gage will allow us to bring some of our most famous franchises to the platform," Yosuke Yoneda, director of Capcom's European Mobile Division, said in a press release statement.

The first 2003 N-Gage was succeeded by the N-Gage QD the following year. However, then N-Gage devices weren't quite the success projected against Nintendo's DS and Sony's PlayStation Portable. Although earlier issues such as having to remove the battery on the N-Gage in order to swap games and the sideway placement of microphone and speaker was corrected on the follow-up, the N-Gage QD, it still wasn't perfect.

Nokia's clearly giving its portable gaming device a third chance, after a break of about two years. On August 29, the Finnish company looks primed to set things right with the launch of its new N-Gage platform for compatible Nseries and S60 3rd Edition handsets.

Several games developers have been roped in leading to the launch, including India's Indiagames, California-based Digital Chocolate, mobile entertainment company I-play and, most recently, Japanese-based Capcom.

The launch is also widely expected to see some new S60 devices announced along with a music download service, though Nokia as usual is keeping mum.
