Smartphones for megahertz junkies
It took a while, but processors on smartphones have finally broken the gigahertz barrier. Earlier this year, Toshiba announced the TG01 which sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1GHz.
Processor speed is not the single most important specification of a smartphone. Other things like memory and battery life are major considerations, too. But if you want something that will zip through your applications and large documents, we've listed three products that make use of the latest 1GHz chip and two others which follow close behind at 800MHz.

Samsung Omnia II (I8000)
CNET Asia rating: 7.7 out of 10
The good: 7.2Mbps HSDPA; large 3.7-inch AMOLED display; good 5-megapixel camera; 3.5mm audio port; useful Task Switcher for memory management; good battery life; inexpensive.
The bad: Plastic surface very prone to smudges; external stylus can be annoying; threaded SMS unavailable; certain parts of custom UI can be slow at times.
The bottom line: Though some may shun Windows Mobile because of other newer operating systems out there, there's no denying that the Omnia II presents great value for money compared with most other touchscreen smartphones.

Acer neoTouch
CNET Asia rating: 6.4 out of 10
The good: Fast 1GHz processor; inexpensive; large 3.8-inch screen; HSDPA; 3.5mm audio connector.
The bad: Build feels plasticky; interface doesn't improve user experience much; half-hearted social-networking integration; speakerphone needs to be louder.
The bottom line: Though it's an improvement over the company's last attempt, this highly specced device doesn't shine in a market of polished HTC and Samsung Windows Mobile smartphones.
