How to get music onto your Walkman phone

By Andrew Lim, CNET.co.uk

Sony Ericsson's Walkman phones are a popular choice among music fans who want the convenience of a combined mobile phone and MP3 player. Unfortunately, it's not always easy to figure out how to get music onto the phones. In this article we'll take you through, step by step, how to install and use the software and we'll give you some troubleshooting tips.

System requirements
Before getting started, you need to check whether your computer will be able to run the Sony Ericsson PC suite and Disc2Phone software.

Start by checking if you have enough space left on your hard drive--you need at least 400MB. To check your hard drive capacity on a Windows PC, click on the Windows Start menu and select My Computer; right click on your hard drive (usually labelled C:) and select Properties from the drop-down menu. The following window, which shows how much space is left on your hard drive, will pop up.

You also need to make sure that you have compatible hardware and are running a compatible operating system. Sony Ericsson provides information on its Web site detailing the requirements of the PC Suite and Disc2Phone software.

If you're not sure what Windows Service Packs (SP) you have installed, or how fast your processor is, right click on the My Computer icon in the Start menu and select Properties. The following window, which shows what operating system and processor you are using, will pop up.

Windows XP SP2, Windows 2000 SP4 and other service packs can be downloaded from the Microsoft Web site; Windows XP SP2 is also available free of charge from PC World.

If your processor is too slow, you can buy a new one and install it, or you can take your computer to a repair shop and ask then to upgrade it.

Unfortunately, Sony Ericsson's software is not supported by Apple Macs, but you can add music onto your Walkman phone without using software, which will be discussed in Tip 2.

Is there a convenient way to transfer music with Chinese titles (labeled in Chinese characters) from PC to phone? When I tried, they were all filtered out, and labeled as "unable to transfer" or something, until I rename them with Roman characters.

I've stopped using the Walkman software since then, and switched to USB and bluetooth.

When I tried to install the Disc2Phone, it asked me to download two other software and when i clicked download it wouldn't. It would respond by saying, please make sure you are connected to the internet, which i know i was. Please help me with this problem.
