Sony Ericsson unveils its first HSDPA phone

By Reuben Lee

Sony Ericsson has been a busy bee. Coming hot after the week-old W660i announcement today are two new handsets to further beef up its 2007 lineup. The company is releasing its first-ever HSDPA offering plus another Walkman slider.

The Japanese-Swedish cellular manufacturer is finally jumping onto the HSDPA bandwagon with its latest clamshell, the Z750i. Like the Z610i, the new handset features an almost similar mirror-finish on its front cover that hides an external OLED display. Its primary screen is a 2.2-inch QVGA panel. The Z750i also comes equipped with a 2-megapixel camera, PictBridge, FM radio, full HTML browser, picture/bideo blogging and a Memory Stick Micro card slot.

The latest addition to the Walkman family is a 14mm-thin slider phone with a 2-megapixel camera, Walkman player 2.0 and FM tuner with RDS. The quadband W580i will also feature a built-in pedometer for monitoring exercise routines and managing the calorie count. Like the recently launched W880i, this comes with TrackID, a music-recognition tool, as well as Bluetooth stereo support.

Both Sony Ericsson handsets are expected to be launched in the third quarter of 2007. No prices have been given yet.
