Walkman and Cyber-shot phones go slim

SINGAPORE--Sony Ericsson today unveiled its 2007 product lineup which included two new Walkman phones, a pair of Cyber-shot offerings and four mainstream handsets. The Japanese-Swedish phone maker also showcased its latest range of cellular accessories, encompassing everything from Bluetooth headsets to portable speakers.

The star of the show, however, was undoubtedly the W880i Walkman phone. First announced at the CES tradeshow in Las Vegas earlier this year, the 3G-enabled W880i is possibly the company's slimmest offering to date. It measures just 9.4mm and is encased in a sleek stainless steel casing. Also making its debut under the Walkman branding is the W610i, a quadband candy bar with a 2-megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth and Memory Stick Micro slot.

Adding to the company's Cyber-shot portfolio were two new handsets, the K810i and K550i. The K810i sports a similar feature set as the K800i, but now offers a slimmer silhouette. It also features new onboard applications such as PhotoFix which helps to enhance image quality. The 2-megapixel K550i, which fills up the lower-end spectrum for the Cyber-shot series, will also have an i-mode edition called the K550im.

Sony Ericsson didn't forget its mainstream and entry-level users, trotting out the K220i, K200i, J120i and J110i.

At the event, the company also showcased its full range of mobile phone accessories. These included the HBH-PV702 and HBH-PV710 Bluetooth headsets, CDS-65 desk stand, HCB-120 Bluetooth car speakerphone as well as HPM-75 stereo portable handsfree. Music-related accessories such as the MRC-60 music remote control, MBR-100 Bluetooth music receiver and MPS-70 portable speakers were also displayed.

The new handsets can be expected in selected cities across Asia in Q2 2007, with the exception of the W880i and K550i/K550im which will be launched in the first quarter. Besides the PV710, MRC-60 and MBR-100 which are slated for Q1, the rest of the accessories will roll out in Q2 2007. Sony Ericsson also plans to launch a PC300 Mobile Broadband PC Card, which supports HSDPA, UMTS, EDGE and GPRS, in the third quarter of this year.
