The Samsung SGH-E420 exudes feminine appeal
HONG KONG--Besides the Ultra Music, Video and Messaging, Samsung also announced seven new mobile phones slated for Asia in 2007.

Of the handsets showcased at the ITU Telecom World 2006 tradeshow in Hong Kong, the SGH-E420 certainly stood out with its glossy yet feminine design, albeit a rather basic feature set. Its front LCD display can be used with the onboard VGA camera for self-protraits.

The Korean mobile phone company, however, took a different approach with the SGH-X520 which sports a compact design similar to the SGH-E870 but is expected to appeal to male users with its Zippo lighter-looking appearance.

As with the recent Samsung Ultra Edition and SGH-E900 handsets, Samsung will be introducing more colors for its mobile phones. The SGH-E490 and SGH-E570, for instance, will come in multicolor hues with the latter sporting up to four different shades instead of the traditional silver option.

Both the SGH-P930 and SGH-P940, which are probably successor models to the SGH-P900 and SGH-P910 models unveiled at CeBIT in March, will come with onboard DVB-H receivers for watching TV programs. However, the rollout of these handsets will be dependent on whether the availability the DVB-H broadcast service in the different countries. The two TV-phones will also be equipped with HSDPA and 3G connectivity.

With the exception of the SGH-i718 (not highlighted in this story) which will be available only in China, consumers can expect all the new mobile phones to be available in the first quarter of 2007.
