Earlier in the tradeshow, Nokia announced at a press conference its first Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) network solution and new collaborations.

According to the Finnish vendor, Unlicensed Mobile Access is a new technology that complements an operators' network coverage with unlicensed wireless technologies, such as WLAN or Bluetooth. What this means to a consumer is that once out of the range of a WLAN, a UMA handset will automatically switch to the cellular network without interrupting a voice call or data transfer session. The only catch? You need to have a UMA-enabled phone and UMA network equipment, naturally.
