Nokia announces new Nseries handsets
Nokia chairman and CEO Jorma Ollila who was speaking at the conference, believes the latest range of products reinforces the company's commitment "to developing the tools, solutions and products to make the promise of digital industry a reality". On the new N92, Richard Sharp, Nokia's vice president of Rich Media, is confident that "mobile TV will be an exciting new service for consumers, as well as generate new opportunities for innovation and growth in the mobile and media industries". Of the three multimedia phones announced, the spotlight is clearly on the flagship model, the N92. Touted by the company as the world's first mobile device with built-in DVB-H receiver, the terminal can be used to watch and record live TV on-the-go. The flexible swivel, which somewhat resembles that of the Samsung SGH-D550, allows the clamshell to be converted to a laptop-like user interface as well as a camcorder-holding position. In addition to the onboard DVB-H receiver, the N92 features an impressive list of premium features including onboard 802.11g Wi-Fi, 2-megapixel camera, 16 million-color display, miniSD card slot and 3G. The only slider model of the handset trio--the N80--also comes with memory expansion card slot, 3G, and Wi-Fi, but offers an enhanced 3-megapixel imaging sensor, while the least feature-rich phone of the lot--the N70--is a 3G clamshell with 2-megapixel camera. All three handsets will be based on the Series 60 platform. The Nokia N71 and N80 are expected to be launched in Asia during the first quarter of next year, while the N92 will be available only in mid-2006. Nokia's three new N-series handsets
