Motorola Bluetooth headset

By Ernest Khoo

Motorola's Bluetooth-enabled headset, first unveiled at at the CTIA Wireless conference in Las Vegas this March, may not make it to Singapore.

The headset is due to launch in the US by Q2 this year, according to a report by Wap.com, a Nowegian Web site that publishes news relating to WAP and wireless Internet.

The Bluetooth-enabled headset is developed for the CDMA-compatible Timeport 270, which is also to be introduced in the US.

However, when asked if a GSM-compatible Bluetooth headset will be made available in Singapore and other parts of Asia, local Motorola spokesperson Jeanette Tan said there are no plans to introduce it in Asia Pacific.

"We do not see it for our roadmap in 2001," said Tan about a GSM version for the Motorola Bluetooth headset.

Bluetooth, which allows electronic devices to exchange data wirelessly at up to 10m, allows you to leave your phone in your pocket and talk handsfree, and answer your calls simply by clicking a button on the Bluetooth-enabled headset.

Motorola's Bluetooth headset was developed together with GN Netcom, a handsfree communications products provider from Denmark with experience in headset ergonomics and acoustics know-how.

Weighing about 26g, the headset has a diameter of less than 5cm and offers a talktime of up to 4 hours, with standby of up to a week. This single-piece device can be worn on either ear, and the short (less than 4cm) boom microphone can be folded into the circular body of the headset.
