User Review for Nokia E66

Mixed Feeling - Excelent for communication /Bad built quality

Rating: 8 out of 10 (Excellent)
Pros: Best in class connectivity options - WLAN, GPRS, EDGE, (3G), Bluetooth, Infrared, GPS. Other functions including a decent camera and media options also have an excellent framework.
Cons: Screen breaks easily (a design flaw), not a strong vibrator, very bad speaker-phone, 3G does not support US 3G/2100 connections in one device, no USB charging support, still FP1.
Opinion:
I have been a more-than-regular user of Nokia. From the "Brick" to 3310, 5300 to 6021, N70 to E66.

The E66 when bought was a very expensive phone. I bought it before it came into the open market. I bought it off a Nokia Flagship store. The cost came about 520 USD (which has significantly reduced to about 320 USD.)

For the price I expected the phone to actually blow my head off, but it was just an excellent phone. It had a few software issues (including calender, contacts, camera and GPS) which was fixed with software updates (I've had at least 4 updates within the last year.)

The slide mechanism did not seem as smooth as I had expected from the reviews that I read online. But, it wasn't bad (actually it is one of the best I've used.) The keys had the best tactile feedback on any phone that I've used. It felt as though I was typing on a laptop-keyboard (You know the difference between a laptop keyboard and the one on the desktop.)

I broke the screen on the phone thrice. It could have been due to the keys in my pocket. I think that it is a design flaw (or it being too thin) because that's never happened to any other Nokia (or other phone) that I've used.

The speaker-phone is the worst that I've used on any phone. Being a business device, I would expect it to be at least above -average. But I just recently used a Nokia 1606 and the speaker-phone was loud and clear. That said, I really hoped that Nokia had some kind of fix for it.

Another issue that I had was that the vibrator and the loud-speaker wasn't powerful enough, that I missed calls when I placed my phone in my pocket.

Another exciting feature that I found on that phone is that, if you set an alarm and turn off the phone, the alarm would still go off. I did not find much use to the change profile (business and personal profile option.) Also just recently on an update on the Quick Office, I received the editing option on Office 2007 docs (which wasn't the case when I bought the phone.)

I guess that would do for a review. The reason I gave it a very-good rating is because the cons can be readily be over-weighed by the pros. The only problem that I had was from the speaker-phone. I'm not sure if Nokia fixed it in due course.
