User Review for HTC Touch Diamond
It is a mistress in handhelds!
Feb 1, 2009Rating: 6 out of 10 (Good)
Pros: Looks sexy, very slim, matches your clothes easily, 3.5G, in-built Youtube software, Touchflo interface, very customizable through 3rd party mods.
Cons: Slow interface, not very user friendly if not modded, music player in Touchflo hangs when there is too many music files, web browser limitation.
Opinion:
I had the Diamond for about 7 months before I write this review. So it is not an impression that I will give you, but rather a truthful presentation of how the phone actually worked for me.
Like many others, I bought the Diamond after much research, and because we failed to resist the seduction of its looks. However, after using it for several months and exploiting almost every mods there is, I have come to a conclusion that it is like a mistress (looks and feels good in your hands, but never really helped you MUCH in your everyday life).
Pros:
1) Comes with almost all wireless connectivity, except for infrared.
2) Really looks good, both front and back of the phone. You can put it on the bar while you quench your thirst with ice cold beer...and you'll know there is someone looking at your phone.
3) It is slim enough to fit into any pocket and does not feel like a tumor at your thighs.
4) Fantastic screen resolution for your pictures and videos! And with the in-built Youtube software, you can watch as many videos as you like (go Wifi else youÂ’ll go broke).
5) Comes with 2 stylus and 2 batteries for the price of about S$600++ w/o line.
Cons:
1) Really slow interface. You can press photo album and try to watch a video, and then go make yourself a cup of 3-in-1 coffee, and it might just begin to start the player. There is a slight improvement from ROM 1.37 to 1.93, BUT alas! The “Flo” movement of the main menu is gone! I searched high and low for the original 1.37 ROM and used it back.
2) You HAVE to register your phone at the HTC website soon after purchase for its warranty to take into effect!! This I learnt when I sold the phone off. So my phone was sold without warranty coverage.
3) Battery life is as short asÂ…well, youÂ’ll need to change battery as often as your mistress changes her clothes. Maybe that is the reason for the 2nd battery. And always remember to charge 2 batteries when you are homeÂ…everyday! I mainly use the phone for voice calls and sms, and there was once I had to buy an extra charger because it was going flat on me after using 2 batteries for 2 days without going home.
4) Software unstable? I am not sure if I the only 1 who had this problem, but sometimes after ending a call, the screen would auto go to the Comm Manager screen.
5) The Opera web browser seemed like it is unable to load and check movie show times at the GV website. Guessed it had its limitationsÂ…
6) SMS alerts can only be in .wmv format. You can use any file converter to create your favorite ringtones. However, that equals to more work.
7) Stupid alarm clock only ring onceÂ…how to wake up? Luckily, I got a real alarm clock.
All in all, it is a good phone with a lot of features. However, the features may not work as well as you might have expected. I bought it as I want a slim phone that looks good back then. I do not rely a lot on features other than voice calls and sms Thus I was able to “tahan” for 7 months. If you are someone who demands a lot from your device, avoid this phone. If you want a head turner, go Diamond!
