User Review for Samsung SGH-E840

The Phone that you can flaunt with more, than use it productively

Rating: 6 out of 10 (Good)
Pros: Fantastic Design, Nice Screen, Nice keypad, Easy UI, Unique vivid mode for text messages, strong vibrator, Good Music Output
Cons: Very Weak Speaker, No Profiles, Average Camera, Touch Sensitive keys too sensitive, No Music keys, Keys get locked during calls, Java apps can be installed only from web
Opinion:
(+) This is yet another beautifully designed slider from samsung. As with all samsung phones, the design is near flawless and the phones does not feel cheap in any bit. The display is well integrated to the upper part. The keypad is good looking. The backlighting is great and there is no leakage anywhere. The Slider feels sturdy and also feels it will last for quite some time. The display is a 240x320 262K color display which looks and feels great anytime you look it. The text, pictures and videos look great. The Keypad is really great to type with large and well spaced out keys. The UI is very simple and straightforward and new users will find it easy to go with. The Alarms and calendar come with all the necessary features. One Feature that I really liked was the "vivid mode" for reading text messages. It displays texts with some animation sequence and some common words with pcitures. If you say "I'm coming by car", the phone replaces the word "car" with a small picture of a car. Really Nice. All the other necesary features like mms, bluetooth, voice recorder are available. The Music player comes with equalizers and the sound through the supplied headsets sound really good.

(-) Now to the Minuses. The big grouse is the weak speaker on which the calls and also ringtones sound very weak. In loud places you are sure to miss some calls but the strong vibrator makes up for it. The Music player is really good but there are no external music controls so you have to keep your phonoe unlocked every time. The camera is a 2MP with no auto focus or flash. The Pictures taken are ok in good light but in low light are worth nothing. There is no profile support. The Phone can be in either Normal Mode or in Silent mode which is a boring thing. The next thing is about the 4 touch keys. The left & right softkey, call answer & reject keys are not mechanical but are touch sensitive and integrated to the display unit. These keys get too sensitive at times and you end up making too many accidental calls. There is support for java but apps can be installed only from web. One more grouse is that when you start a call, the keys get locked and you can't end a call in one press. You have to unlock the keys first and then end a call.

All in all, the number of pros for this phone equal the number of cons. If you are very style conscious and looking for a phone with a good design which you can show off every minute but not looking for a productive phone, your search ends here.
