O2xda atom life - frequent "memory low" prompt

Why is it that I keep getting a prompt "memory is low" from my O2xda atom life. I did not open a lot of programs. Most times after I open eg. Excel,read a few txt messages or emails, then the program memory is already 65% or so. Any further opening of any program will give me the verbal prompt "memory is low".All my work files are stored in the external mini SD card. The internal flash memory is hardly used - only 6% used. Under this situation, is it normal that the program memory bar is already 50 over % when I start.
Sometimes, I soft re-set and start with the program memory at 53%. Then I hear music or view a video clip (just do one of them), again the same prompt comes out. Do I need to increase my RAM?
Any advice from you guys? Thanks
