Disc Navigator

I just purchased Pioneer DVR-650H-S. I was able to record and play from HDD. However, I am not able to get the CD to recognize the disc. I have loaded several types of CD formats, recorded and viewed on LG and I still not able to play it back. I keep getting message "load disc". I also tried to record on a blank disk from the HDD. I also keep getting the same message "load disc".The disc navigatgion is not highlighted to set it up with VR or Video modes. I am not sure how to fix this issue.
