If you have been craving for more Sony Bravia LCD TVs, seems like your prayers are finally answered. The Japanese company has just released an update on its latest 2007 Asia models. Hot off the press are 16 spanking new panels of varying screen sizes and capabilities. A follow-up to the recently announced Bravia Vs, they include a couple of debut lineups from its W-, D-, U- and G-series. That’s besides the overhauled Bravia X with a new video-processing engine.
A common feature among the X, W and D entries is a set of triple HDMI ports: One by the side for easy access and two on the rear. Besides the quantity boost, these have received a timely upgrade with 1080p24 signal handling a.k.a. 24p True Cinema. Corresponding to the original film-based movie frame rate, this eliminates unnecessary video conversion which may introduce motion judder, among others artifacts.
Aesthetics-wise, the Bravia X incarnations have retained their signature floating glass design. That said, you will have a choice of either perforated (X300) or solid (X350) bezel. Pretty face aside, there are the technological bits with a class-leading 18,000:1 dynamic contrast, new Bravia Engine Pro and Motion Flow motion enhancement. Furthermore, a 70-inch whopper is also in the pipeline and will be ready by end October.
Also wearing the full-HD badge is the W-series. These offer comparable specs and capabilities with the above flagships. Putting aside their less-than-flattering facades, these boast 16,000:1 dynamic contrast and PhotoTV HD mode. This, as it claims, bridges onscreen photo visual quality against actual print. A different Bravia Engine EX processor wraps up the remaining key differentiator between the two 1080p lineups.
In the middle of the pack, we have the D-series shipped with HD-ready 1,366 x 768-pixel LCD panels. Like their V-series peers, they sport a more conservation 8,000:1 rating and lack x.v.Color for extended color playback. Lastly, these are also outfitted with the now familiar Bravia Engine, first unveiled in the 2006 models. Looking on the brighter side, this range starts from 32 inches ideal for smaller living and bedrooms.
At the bottom of the echelon are the U- and G-series. The former is the closest match to its now-defunct S-series, packing mainly no-frills specifications targeted at value-conscious consumers. Having said that, there is a single HDMI and dual component-video sockets, all future-proofed with 1080p compatibility. Last but not least, the petite KLV-20G300A has a standard 4-by-3 aspect ratio screen which makes this perfect for standard-definition TV broadcast.
