Connected TV roundup

By Philip Wong

Connected TVs are a whole new generation of displays that perform a couple of nifty tricks via a live network connection. These panels can double as multimedia streamers similar to the Sony PlayStation 3, as well as stream content over the Internet. The former allows consumers to remotely playback music, photos and videos stored on their home PCs and DLNA-ready gadgets, while the latter brings YouTube and other social-networking portals into the living room. Some Philips entries even feature Web browsers, too.

To facilitate the above functions, all connected TVs are equipped with an Ethernet port, though there's also a trend to go wireless via Wi-Fi. It's worth noting that there're HDTVs such as the Sony Bravia-series which offer DLNA-compatibility but lack the important Net access element. Nevertheless, here's a roundup of the best in their display categories to come with full-fledged connectivity.
