LG HDTVs get 200Hz and Bluetooth upgradesHome theatersUnlike its competitors, LG is launching two Blu-ray HTIB kits based on a similar player/receiver and subwoofer package. The HB954PB and HB954SP are mainly distinguished by their bundled speakers. The former's boomboxes are sculptured based on the silhouette of wine glasses, while the latter come in compact egg-shaped sizes. Both models pack a powerful 1,000W amplifier and support YouTube video streaming. They will also handle high-resolution Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD soundtracks on top of BD-Live advanced interactive features and Web content downloads. As for value-added capabilities, both systems will upscale DVD to 1080p resolution. There will also be a dock for an iPod and iPhone and playback support for multimedia files via a USB socket. For S$1,000 (US$736.25) more, the higher-end HB954PB is equipped with dual HDMI inputs to hook up consoles, settop boxes, etc. If you prefer a standalone Blu-ray player, LG has the BD370. Besides being fully compatible with all studio-grade surround sound formats and BD-Live, the recently launched BD370 has fast disc eject/loading time and reads a variety of files, including MKV and MPEG-4. Also making their debut at the event are the LG HT964PZ and HT554TM DVD-based HTIB kits. What's interesting about the HT964PZ are its wine glass-inspired tower speakers and HDMI input. The HT544TM, on the other hand, has a pocket-friendly S$499 (US$367.39) price tag and supports onboard USB playback, just like its pricier counterparts. Key specifications at a glance
