How to select the right Panasonic HDTVPanasonic is another household name with a long history in the TV business ever since the black-and-white CRTs. Widely renowned for its Viera flat-panel displays, the Japanese company currently offers a comprehensive selection with a very distinct positioning between LCDs and plasmas. For screen sizes of 37 inches and smaller, Panasonic is offering only LCD TVs, while it favors plasma technology for the larger models which scale from 42 inches to a massive 150 inches.
![]() Some of the more unique propositions for its Vieras include the plasma TV's anti-reflection filter designed to minimize glare from room ambient lighting. On the other hand, most of its LCD TVs feature higher-end In-Plane Switching (IPS) Alpha panels. These displays offer a deliver wider viewing angle and deliver vibrant pictures that are less prone to color shift where the saturation fades. This problem usually occurs whenever the screen is viewed away from the sweet spot or the center of the display. Can I please ask for just one thing?
Taking price out of the equation, what should we buy? A Plasma or an LCD?
A simple question requiring a simple, one word answer.
Thank you.

Unfortunately, there's no "one size fit all" solution to your query. You see, everyone have their own requirements. Some people would emphasis deeper blacks and go for a plasma, while the environmentally conscious group may prefer LCDs for their generally lower power consumption.

OK Thanks.....as soon as the wallpaper is on the walls I need to buy a New television for our TV Room. I hadn't thought of Plasmas for a very long time but now I've discovered that their burn in problems have mostly been solved.
So, Plasma for Picture Quality or LCD for power savings.
Thanks again.

I bought a 42PY800 just before Christmas and I am very please with it!
I also have 3 LCDs (Sony, Samsung and Philips) plus a first generation 40" LG plasma. I have been sticking to watching the LG plasma and finally decided to get a full HD plasma and went for the 42PY800. Highly recommend it!
Fantastic colours. definitely can't go past plasma for colour and sports!

I was looking at Panasonic Plasmas yesterday at Emporium. I am almost convinced to go with a Plasma as this will be in the television room so I want it 50 or 52 inches....picture and motion quality is important. I think Panasonic is the best option for a Plasma based on my research.

Before I decided on the above 65-inch TH-65PY850 Panasonic Viera 65" Plasma TV (Japan manufactured), I made alot of comparisons on the soecifications with other brands.
I compared the Japan manufactured one against the one maufactured in Singapore and could hear the differences on the visual and audio.
Eventually, I bought the above and must attest that the image quality, rich black, natural colour resolution with 1,000.000:1 dynamic contrast ratio is simply fantastic.
As I have a big living hall, the TV with my 7.1-speakers home theatre system where I mounted a pair of tweeters at the ceiling above the rear surrounding speakers is better than watching in the cinema.
I must say that it does not mean that if one pays a premium price for a TV, one will get getter results.
One has to compare all the specifications before making a decision.
