2008 Vieras boast 100-fold contrastViera LCD TV and Blu-ray highlightsPanasonic's recent renewed interest in the IPS Alpha technology has borne fruit with even more Vieras adopting such high-end LCD panels renowned for their rich colors and wide viewing angle. Not only that, its flagship TX-37LZ800 has finally gone full-HD, too. The extra boost in resolution is matched by an upgraded 10,000:1 dynamic contrast and new x.v. Color and 1080p24 input capabilities. Rounding up the goodies are three HDMI ports and 100Hz Motion Picture Pro frame rate-doubling function. One step down the performance ladder, we've the HD-ready LX800-series loaded with the same motion-enhancing 100Hz technology and judder-free 24-frame 1080p signal support. This is aside from an onboard SDHC memory card slot for JPEG playback which was formerly an exclusive in its premium flat panels. These also sport the same competent dynamic contrast mentioned above, applicable across the entire 2008 LCD lineup. On a separate note, the Japanese company has finally released its first and long belated Blu-ray player for Asia. The DMP-BD30 offers the elusive combination of Blu-ray Profile 1.1 and Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD bitstream (unformatted) audio output. The former enables advanced interactive features such as picture-in-picture director commentaries, while the latter is a match made in heaven for compatible new-gen A/V receivers. Having said that, this has already been superseded by a newer Profile 2.0-ready BD50 which Panasonic has no plans to bring in at the moment. Do check back this space as we're still awaiting further information on pricing and availability for the rest of Asia. |
