220kg of pure 1080p charm

By Philip Wong

It was a flashy morning here at Plaza Parkroyal Singapore hotel as Panasonic showcased its range of industrial visual products to media and vendors. On demonstration in the spacious ballroom was an assortment of commercial plasma panels, data and eCinema projectors, LCD monitors and the world's largest plasma panel. Also present were the familiar Viera flat panels, though the spotlight was clearly on a 103-inch mammoth.

All eyes were on the 103-incher rather than the Vieras.

A picture paints a thousand words. That's exactly what Panasonic delivered in a short but enlightening 1080p demonstration. Initial impressions of the 103-incher were that of smooth vibrant pictures courtesy of the plasma's traditionally rich colors and the panel's ultra-high pixel density. Weighing 220kg and measuring something along the lines of a queen-sized mattress, the plasma heavyweight will be available for order from Q4 2006 albeit in limited quantities.

The Japanese company also promoted two world's first data projectors at the event. Lauded as the smallest and lightest LCD light beamer with an integrated SD memory slot, the Panasonic PT-P1SD is light on bulk at 1.3kg, yet packs a punch in versatility with its direct SD card image projection.

Meanwhile, the PT-LB60NT carrying the title of world's fastest wireless projector. This 2.6kg silver box boasts a six-generation Wi-Fi-b/g wireless capability which not only offers high-speed data transfer but also interfaces with up to 16 computers.
