Features
Packing well over 2 million pixels, this LG features a futureproof 1,920 x 1,080 native resolution delivered through a highly sought-after S-IPS LCD panel. This promising piece is rated at an above-average 5,000:1 dynamic contrast coupled with competent 500cd/m2 brightness. Its contrast is nowhere close to Samsung's over-the-top 15,000:1 and is even a little shy of the 7,000:1 figure of the dated but competent Sony Bravia X. That said, this is offset by a blazing-fast 5ms response time and industry-leading 178-degree viewing angle.

Video enhancements for the 47LB7RF are well taken care of with an updated 2007 XD Engine and videophile-grade Faroudja DCDi processors. The former is now capable of handling high-bandwidth 1080p sources at full resolution, while the latter is popular among enthusiasts for its jaggy-free video deinterlacing and HD upscaling. To match its advanced video capabilities, the set is also outfitted with a souped-up two-way, four-speaker audio subsystem enhanced by a seven-band graphics equalizer and SRS TruSurround XT software.

A fineprint in the belated specs sheet got us all fired up. No, we are not talking about its Simplink or HDMI-Consumer Electronic Control one-remote capability, but rather its extended 1080p conformity. This LG is seemingly one of the first LCD TVs in our region, besides the Pioneer plasmas, to support the 24Hz flavor of the full-HD signal. Corresponding to the original frame rate of all film-based material, this eliminates the need for unnecessary video conversion which may introduce motion judder and other potential artifacts.

The Korean company has not caught up with its fellow compatriot on the latest HDMI fad, having featured only two of these all-digital terminals on this premium 47-incher. Fortunately, this can be partially forgiven taking into consideration the comprehensive 1080p compatibility for its dual component-video and PC input. In fact, these are identical in compliancy with the HDMIs and capable of supporting all variants of the high-quality feed, including the standard 50 and 60Hz versions outputted by Blu-ray and HD-DVD players.
