Features:
This Toshiba Regza belongs to a new breed of value-oriented full-HD LCD TVs, following the recently launched and reviewed Philips 47PFL7422. It has a future-proofed 1,920 x 1,080-resolution, pixel-to-pixel compatibility with all current HD broadcasts and media. This time round, it has also followed the crowd with dynamic contrast rated at a respectable factor of 10,000:1, or double the equivalent of the above-mentioned Dutch model. Topping it off are 500cd/m2 brightness, 8ms response time and an ultra-wide 178-degree viewing angle. For its humble pricing, you will have to settle with the original Meta Brain Pro video engine first debuted in the mid-2006. This lacks the popular 100Hz frame rate-doubling technology found on its flagship 68-series, though it's important to note that you're definitely not short-changed here. After all, the comparable-sized 47WL68E is not loaded with the motion-enhanced chipset, too. Nonetheless, it does come with an Exact Scan mode which faithfully reproduces each pixel from the input signal without introducing overscanning or videoscaling.
As for audio reproduction, the humble onboard 20W amplifier and stereo speakers are hardly impressive by today's standards. That said, the pair should have more than adequate reserved power to satisfy most average Joes on the street. To enhance performance, there is the tried-and-tested SRS WoW sound-enhancement software system. This revolves around three subsystems covering surround sound, bass and stereo-imaging processing. Lastly, bass and treble adjustment are available just in case you prefer to personalize the sound quality.
Other enhancements over the previous Regzas include full 1080p input support and Regza Link (HDMI-CEC). Dubbed Native Scan Capture, the 46X3500E is capable of accepting both standard 1080p50/60 and film-centric 1080p24 signals via HDMI and component-video. You will have access to two of each, though the latter's 24Hz compliancy is tested only on its third-gen HD-DVD players. Rounding up the connectivity option is widescreen-ready PC input and a pair of legacy composite A/V jacks. Missing from the lineup is an S-video input which is now relegated to the panel's side.
