LG 42LB9R (42-inch LCD)
Features
Like the majority of its 2007 range, the 42LB9R is based on the tried-and-proven Super-In Plane Switching (S-IPS) technology. When implemented favorably, such panels are renowned for delivering rich colors and extended viewing angles, making them popular choices among premium LCD monitors. Now back to this LG. It's rated to put out ultra-high dynamic contrast and brightness factors of 10,000:1 and 500cd/m2, respectively. These figures are adequately matched by a blazing-fast 5ms response time and wide 178-degree viewing angle.
To fully capitalize the panel's potential, its designers have thrown in an updated XD Engine and videophile-grade Faroudja DCDi processors. The 2007 iteration of its proprietary video chip is now capable of processing 1080p sources, while the latter ranks as a hot favorite among enthusiasts for its jaggy-free video deinterlacing and HD upscaling. This new series also edges out the LC7Rs with an integrated light sensor. Dubbed Intelligent Eye, it dynamically adjusts onscreen visuals to compensate for the actual room lighting condition.
For action flick aficionados willing to invest in a high-end HD player, 24Hz 1080p (1080p24) signal is supported out-of-the-box. Routed through HDMI and encoded in native film-based frame rate, it does away with unnecessary video conversion which preserves signal integrity as well as promises judder-free motion. In addition, Simplink via HDMI allows simplified cross-component operations for compatible A/V boxes. For example, one-touch simultaneous powering down of all your connected equipment via the TV remote.
