First Take
Here's another lookalike flat-panel TV, but this time from the established LCD evangelist. The new Sharp PX5s share a common chassis and styling with their flagship P7-series, unique among past Aquos TVs. Stemming from an encouraging in-house design, the panels offer consumers another alternative from the signature designed-by-Toshiyuki Kita lineup. After all, it has been many years since Sharp featured the works of the renowned Japanese designer. Not that it's relevant, but this makes for a rather refreshing change from the norm that we have come to expect. ...

amazing

Pros: bright, HDMI inputs, even the PC input is good, simple user interface
Cons: slight stretching of images - but more due to analog signal than the TV
Opinion:
I'll try and put this using the perspective I was using as I searched out LCD TVs.
Size - was actually looking at 40 in. screens, but apparently Sharp doesn't have 40in. here in Malaysia so their 42 PX5 seemed to fit the bill nicely
Inputs - I knew that I needed to have at least 2 HDMI for the DVD and PS3 (or maybe now my new HDMI 8800GT graphics card on my new computer!!)... don't be fooled by the peoples advertising S-video for Astro and what not - you only get 5% increase in performance...
On Astro - definitely worried about quality with so many people annoyed that Astro won't switch to HD until 2009, but I was crazy surprised when I powered up the Sharp and Astro was great!! sure there are some visible streching to fit the 42 in full mode - but it's still fantastic and the 6ms takes care of the ... Pros: stunning picture quality, great aesthetics, decent audio
Cons: just owned only for 2 weeks, yet to find anything major
Opinion:
I am very impressed by the picture quality. Even the regular channels come out decent. You dont buy this TV for regular broadcasting..I subscribed to HD broadcasting - discovery and national geographic and we only watch these channels now. you dont need to follow the programes, just sit in front and enjoy the vivid colors, extreme clarity etc., Overall it is a great purchase. I got it for a deal - $3000 after coupon and everything...worth every single penny. The only TV that came close to this was Sony Bravia - V series. But V series price was more and contract, response time were less in Bravia. Sharp PX5 is a newer model than V series bravia. If there is a $200 to $300 difference, I will buy any day sharp or sony. Dont settle for Samsung or LG or other brands., You are compromising. I gave 9 instead of 10 since I have used it only for few days ... Read more
