User Review for Panasonic Viera TH-50PY850 (50-inch plasma)
At S$4,200 with Gifts, Definitely The Best Value for Money in the High-End Category in Singapore at Present
Mar 26, 2009Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: Breath Taking Picture Quality watching Batman, The Dark Knight on Blu Ray. Most Powerful Speakers in the 50" Range. Great Picture Quality on Standard Definition TV Broadcast
Cons: Remote Control not responsive, Pictures a Bit Soft (not as glaring as LCD)
Opinion:
Manage to pick this up at the Singapore IT Show on March 13th 2009. Got a great deal. Paid SGD $4,200 and came with free S$200 Taka Voucher, a free Pana Blu Ray player BD30, 3 years warranty, a free Chronograph watch worth $200+, free wall bracket and installation of wall mount, free delivery, and the best part; interest free installment by American Express or any credit card of one's choice (without surcharge). Bought from Best Denki (the dealer at the show).
Without doubt, at the price of S$4,200 with free gifts, this offers the best value for money in the high end category 50' and above relative to Pioneer KRP 500a (S$5,999 without free gifts or S$6,999 with free gifts) or the Samsung ranges of LCDs (52' 650 and 750 range at $5200 - S$5800 without free gifts).
Extremely delighted with the purchase. Would highly recommend this TV to anyone looking for the best picture quality without paying the sky for it!! The black levels are definitely comparable to the Pioneer. You don't loose much considering the significant cost savings versus the Pioneer KRP 500A. I have both TVs. I paid S$6,999 for the Pioneer KRP 500a with free gift of LX71 Blu Ray Player (a free upgrade from the LX 50 Blu Ray player) but does not come with table stand for the pioneer).
Given the double panel glass, minimal heat is generated from the panels. Much lesser heat then compared to the LG LCD TVs I have at home or even the Pioneer.
The colour reproduction (skin colour, trees, leaves, fruits, etc) are definitely more accurate than any LCD in the market that I have seen (eg. Samsung's 650 to 850 range of LCD TCVs).
The things that I didnt like about the Panasonic is mostly cosmetic. The control buttons on the TV are ugly, the TV is extremely bulky (thick) and heavy (much heavier than the Pioneer). The grey cover is too plastic looking and appears cheap. The remote control does not have backlight.
