NEC debuts versatile and eco-friendly projectors

By Philip Wong, CNET Asia

Minimizing cost of ownership has always been an important consideration for the corporate- and education-oriented projector markets. To meet this requirement, NEC is overhauling its NP-series 3LCD beamers with 10 stepped-up models. They feature an extended 5,000-hour lamp life under Eco mode and significantly reduced power consumption of as low as 0.7W under standby status. Other green touches include an enhanced dust filter that lasts three times longer, a carbon savings meter to calculate the benefits of Eco mode usage, and various other timer functions.

In terms of versatility, these NECs can be remotely operated from a computer running its virtual remote software. The beauty of this solution is that it does not require any additional cabling and can be performed easily via a standard VGA cable. To top it off, there's an onboard Ethernet port to facilitate multi-projector network administration for most models save for the NP305 and NP405. Users facing tight space and installation constraints can also check out the NP510WS and NP610S with their ultra-short throw lens capable of projecting up to a 60-inch screen from 0.9m.

All 10 projectors are just out in Singapore, with launch details for other Asia markets still pending.
