6.  BenQ W10000

CNET Asia rating: 8 out of 10
The good: Eye-catching styling; bright pictures; motorized zoom, focus and lens shift; near-silent operation; value-added bundle; full 1080p support.
The bad: Bulky; single HDMI; moderate-to-long throw distance (100-inch at 4m).
The bottom line: The competent and stylish BenQ W10000 will only make perfect sense if you own a relatively deep entertainment room and an HDMI switching-enabled A/V receiver.

7.  Mitsubishi Electric HC5000

CNET Asia rating: 8 out of 10
The good: Superb visual clarity; true full-HD compatibility; DVI PC interface; high-end video processor.
The bad: Rather plain physical design; slightly unfriendly menu design; some motorized functions are a bit jumpy.
The bottom line: The Mitsubish's HC5000 isn't the prettiest 1080p projector on the block, but the images it delivers certainly are.

8.  InFocus Play Big SP777

CNET Asia rating: 8 out of 10
The good: Unbelievable image quality; funky design; plenty of video inputs; high definition-ready.
The bad: Cheap remote control; huge chassis size.
The bottom line: It's actually impossible to criticize the InFocus Play Big SP777. The price is obviously prohibitive, but it gives an indication not only of the pinnacle of today's home cinema, but what will very feasibly be available for about S$10,000 in a few years' time. The overriding message is clear, though: This is a cinematic projector so good it leaves you speechless.

9.  Sony VPL-VW50

CNET Asia rating: 7.5 out of 10
The good: Relatively inexpensive for a 1080p projector; solid color decoding; reasonably bright; resolves every detail of 1080 resolution sources; highly adjustable picture; plenty of connectivity.
The bad: Less than perfect gamma, poor primary and secondary color accuracy.
The bottom line: Although the Sony VPL-VW50's picture quality falls short in a number of areas, it's easily one of the best values in 1080p front projection.
