"Upsized" game consoles the next big wave?

By GameSpot staff

Despite the recent Xbox 360 Elite price revision and a more affordable PS3 Slim, the scene is set for a showdown among the upcoming 250GB models. Before you part with your hardearned cash on these current 120GB consoles, here's a head-up on the offerings lined up for the coming months.

Xbox 360 Super Elite
Just a few days after Microsoft confirmed a worldwide Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 bundle, its UK division announced that another bundle will be racing to UK stores in time for Christmas with the portentously named Xbox 360 Forza Motorsport 3 Super Elite Bundle.

The bundle will be available on the same day as Forza Motorsport 3's launch, October 23, and is priced at US$410. It's almost identical to the Modern Warfare 2 (MW2) bundle, sans the camouflage-themed paint job and a copy of that game. It includes a 250GB hard drive, two Xbox 360 wireless controllers, an Xbox 360 headset, and the standard edition of Forza Motorsport 3. Unike the MW2 bundle, it does not look like the Forza Motorsport 3 bundle will be limited to any one retailer.

It seems that Microsoft may still have a third hardware bundle in the pipeline for this holiday season, with unconfirmed reports suggesting that a European Halo 3: ODST bundle is also in the works. According to gaming blog Kotaku, the Halo 3: ODST hardware bundle contains a 120GB Xbox 360 Elite, a controller, copies of Halo 3: ODST and Halo 3, and access to Halo: Reach's beta program. At the time of publication, neither UK nor US Microsoft reps had returned requests for confirmation.
