Microsoft reaches out with Xbox Xperience Zone

By Philip Wong

SINGAPORE--The first Xbox Xperience Zone is officially open in the island-state. Conveniently located in downtown Funan DigitaLife Mall, the modular concept store will feature custom gaming areas manned by a group of dedicated Xbox staff.

According to Alan Chou, Microsoft's regional market manager for Entertainment and Devices Division (Xbox), the main aim of setting up the Xperience Zone is to offer consumers a chance to better experience and learn about the Xbox products. The company plans to install three Xperience Zones in Singapore before the end of this year, with each of them sporting a different game-centric theme. The first one situated at Funan DigitaLife Mall will have an action theme, while the second Zone, planned for Best Denki electronics chain in VivoCity in October, will focus on sports and racing games. A third concept store, which hasn't been finalized, is expected to have a strong music element.

There are plans to bring the Xperience Zone concept to other Asian cities, though it will depend on the local consumers' response to the program.

Besides trying out some of the latest Xbox 360 titles at the Xperience Zone, the Xbox Live-enabled consoles will allow consumers to play online as well. Microsoft's accessories for the Xbox will also be available for customers to try. The company plans to organize sneak previews of its upcoming games at the concept store, too.

For the next few days, Xbox Xpert and brand ambassador Sheylara will be making guest appearances at the Xperience Zone in Funan. Gamers looking for a good challenge may want to drop by and put their fragging skills to the test. Click here for more on our Xbox Xpert coverage.

On a separate note, Microsoft has recruited Japan Square Enix to strengthen its role-playing game (RPG) lineup. The S$69.90 (US$51.46) Xbox 360 exclusive, Infinite Undiscovery, is a Japanese fantasy RPG which combines real-time battle and multi-party gameplay with 1080i HD graphics and a strong storyline. Other upcoming titles under this genre include The Last Remnant and Tales of Vesperia.
