Bowers and Wilkins' brand of hi-fi expose

By Philip Wong

SINGAPORE--Catch UK Bowers and Wilkins' (B&W) fine collection of hi-fi under one roof for the first time here in Southeast Asia. Showcasing its audiophile-grade loudspeakers in conjunction with high-end Classé and Arcam audio equipment, the lifestyle boutique store is laid out in three themed demo rooms. These include the essential oil-scented Sense Room serving complimentary floral tea and the SensEntertain Hall complete with a pool table and private Walk of Fame.

In the Sense Room Uno, you will get to sample the Classé-driven B&W Signature Diamond and Zeppelin iPod speakers. The former is a limited-edition diamond tweeter-loaded tower speaker crafted in an attractive rounded marble cabinet. The latter is a three-way boombox offering full-bodied stereo sound, an integrated iPod dock and video relay capability.

The Sense Room Duo, on the other hand, features the value-for-money CM7-series towers. What we have here is a musical-sounding speaker assembled using building blocks filtered down from its higher-end siblings. Completing the ensemble is an Arcam Solo Movie 5.1, a 1080i-upscaling DVD receiver featuring DAB digital radio, HDMI and a beefy toroidal power transformer.

Lastly, there is the cozy SensEntertain Hall furnished with the discreet CCM616 ceiling speaker. These have a space-saving coaxial design--a tweeter integrated on top of the woofer--and are meant for piping music to the least expected locations such as the bathroom and kitchen. With this new showroom, B&W is hoping to extend its reach to an even wider spectrum of Asian users.
