A glitter affair at LG's Pan-Asian Family Festival

By Philip Wong

Flashy models are clearly no longer sufficient as LG flew in the country's most popular Korean actress, Lee Young Ae, to grace its 2006 Pan Asian Family Festival. Hailed by the company as a cultural extravaganza, the event showcased its latest cutting-edge products to over 800 trade and media representatives from seven Asia-Pacific countries.

Spread within the Swissotel The Stamford (Singapore) hotel ballroom was a roundup of LG's past and present digital audio-visual devices and appliances. The dazzling ensemble included its 102-inch prototype plasma TV, award-winning LCD TVs and home theater systems, steam washing machines, SpacePlus refrigerators, Super Multi data storages, and what the company claimed to be the world's slimmest UMTS music phone.

Topping the scale in size and resolution was its 71PY10G plasma TV dressed in premium gold finish. This mammoth features a generous 71-inch panel measuring 1,750 x 982mm with an unbelievably slim 98mm depth. The set is also futureproofed with native ultra-HD resolution compatible with 1080p videos and comes with a comprehensive suite of A/V inputs ranging from HDMI to DVI, to a pair of HD-ready component-video inputs.

For those home video-recording aficionados in search of a convergent audio-visual solution, LG is offering its 42PC1RR digital video recorder-equipped plasma TV. This 42-incher's feature set includes a high 10,000:1 contrast ratio plasma panel, built-in 80GB hard drive and live TV time-shift capability. The latter enables users to pause, rewind and replay live TV programs much like the Live TV function offered by StarHub's Smart TV service.
