In-expensive powerful 7.1 AVR.
Oct 20, 2007Rating: 8 out of 10 (Excellent)
Pros: Onboard Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD decoder, excellent theatrical sound quality.
Cons: Down convert 1080i input source to 720p.
Opinion:
For those who are planning to set up their home theater system, this TX-SR605 maybe a good set to start. Lots of connectivity including HDMI 1.3, power rating of 110W per channel and excellent theatrical sound quality. You can even hook up your iPod with optional base station.
Video upscaling is disappointing, its actually reduces the screen size to achieve 720p HD quality. It will down convert component video 1080i input signal to 720p when output over HDMI, and the automatic speaker-calibration may not up to individual liking. Nonetheless the TX-SR605 is truly an in-expensive 7.1 AV receiver and almost "future-proof" available.
