Great universal remote!

Rating: 8 out of 10 (Excellent)
Pros: Easy to use, quick to learn
Cons: Expensive in Singapore, cannot learn detailed functions
Opinion:
The SRU 9600 is a good basic universal remote; easy to use and easy to teach. I picked it up from Amazon for about SGD 105; it is priced close to SGD 270 in Singapore! It might have been easier for me as I have a Philips LCD TV and a Philips DVD player. My biggest worry was that it would not sync with the Starhub set top box, but although it does not seem to figure in the 184 odd cable boxes in the list, it can be taught to perform almost all the required functions quite easily. It took me under 30 minutes to teach the SRU 9600 all the set top box functions I usually use. It is still early days, but first impression: great buy!

I just put 7 other remotes into my store room

Rating: 8 out of 10 (Excellent)
Pros: Sleek design, relatively easy set-up, macros
Cons: strict device categories
Opinion:
After reading the previous comment, I was really wary the remote would not work with my Starhub cable box, but I really couldn't see anything in the specs that suggested it would not.

Sure enough, it's not one of the brands listed on the remote. But I did a full search and it detected the cable box on frequency number 99 out of about 200. Most of the functions worked straight away - the 4 coloured buttons, the directional pad.

But I did have to teach it the additional controls for the smart tv which is also a rather simple point and click thing.

had problems with channel jumping, but it was more because of my impatience. When teaching the prestigo functions, I would sometimes keep pressing the button on the original remote repeatedly until the prestigo beeped. But that meant the prestigo learnt that the button corresponded to 2 presses of the original remote. ... Read more

It works beautifully but...

Rating: 6 out of 10 (Good)
Pros: It works flawlessly (with a single glaring exception), classy form factor, ease of use
Cons: Can't detect Starhub Set Top Box
Opinion:
I have been hunting for a universal controller. My journey started with the cheap universal remote (S$20-$30), migrated to Logitech's Harmony and now the Philips Prestigo. Programming the Harmony turned out to be a pain and despite hours of patient programming, the channel jumps. With the Philips Prestigo, it solves the problem BUT it cant detect the Starhub Set Top Box (which uses the same infrared codes as ADB, correct me if I am wrong).

It would have gotten a much higher score if this last remaining problem is solved
