The bad: Expensive; some HDMI syncing issues; main remote can be confusing, although simpler remote provided; Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding cannot be used with current crop of HD video players.
The bottom line: With six HDMI inputs, an intuitive graphical user interface and excellent audio and video quality, the Sony STR-DA5300ES raises the bar on what to expect from a high-end AV receiver.

Sony receivers have unresolved faults

Opinion:
I purchased the Sony DA5400ES receiver due to its H.A.T.S. feature to match my Sony XA5400ES player (excellent) However on connecting up it tripped out and would not reset. The Sony Centre where I bought the receiver had the same problem with their demo model and sent both receivers back to Sony UK.
Now three months later no word from Sony about the fault. I did receive a full refund from the shop.
It is difficult to see any improvment of what it is

Opinion:
The STR 5300 is the best thing you can buy right now from sony, there is no use in spending more on a 5400, or a 6400, except if you use the Ilink input from the 6400.-
This receiver Sound as good as it should, and with 6 HDMI you are very future proofe for everything.-
