CNET Asia Review
Very good
The good: Stylish, minimalist design; built-in DVD player concealed behind motorized door; very good video quality on DVDs; four total audio inputs; iPod dock included. 7.8
out of 10View score
The bad: No video inputs; sounds better with movies than with music.
The bottom line: The exceedingly stylish Philips HTS8100 SoundBar packs the home theater experience--including a DVD player--into one slim package plus a sub.

HTS 8100 BIG DISAPPOINTMENT
May 23, 2008Rating: 4 out of 10 (Mediocre)
Pros: Terrific sound, can handle many sources like computers, Hard disk, Ipod
Cons: DVD player defective
Opinion:
I got my unit on Jan 2008 in the Philippines. First problem, it did not want to play other region DVDs, I called for a technician and it was solved right away. Second problem, often time when I play a DVD, no picture comes out of the TV. I have to unplug unit, replug it, turn on the DVD before I get a picture. This happened at first 1 out of 3 times I use the unit. But after a month or so later, this happens 2 out of 3 times I use the DVD player and lately all the time. Its very depressing to have to uplug and replug the unit to watch a DVD movie. Sound quality is quite good with very good surround sound and terrific upscaling of DVD picture to my Philips 42inch LCDTV.
Bad after sales service when you buy it in Shanghai
Dec 4, 2007Rating: 1 out of 10 (Abysmal)
Pros: No pros becos mine is not working
Cons: Super bad after sales service
Opinion:
What good is a Philips home theater system if it does not work upon delivery and have no after sales service. I bought and install the HTS8100 system in Shanghai last month. The subwoofer is so soft I have to put my ears to it to hear it, even after I put the bass to highest level. So I called in the Philips technical team who confirmed that the subwoofer was faulty upon delivery and called the customer service number, the customer service then try to deny that the system was faulty against their own techician diagnosis and refused a change of new set. I then email the Philips official site and got a standardise email which started the same customer line I called earlier which denied me service. I am still stuck with a unworkable Philips set, after spending a bomb on it, so my advise is, don't even think of buying it if you are in China.
