The good: Swanky design; all games in HD; PSP-like user-friendly interface; plays Blu-ray and upscales DVDs to 1080p; built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth; 80GB hard drive; wireless and optional force feedback controllers; backward-compatible with PS2 and PS1 titles; built-in memory card readers; online play is free; onboard Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD decoder.

The bad: A USB port on the back would've been nice; glossy black finish is a fingerprint magnet; runs hot and noisy; power guzzler.

The bottom line: The Sony PlayStation 3 features a swanky design and bevy of features making it one of the most versalite console for gaming and home enterainment.

IF YOU GO ONLY FOR MEDIA ENTERTAINMENT, THIS IS FOR YOU

Rating: 8 out of 10 (Excellent)
Pros: Blu-Ray support, beautiful design, bragging rights
Cons: VERY FEW QUALIT GAMES TO CHOOSE FROM, online gaming not as good as Xbox 360
Opinion:
If are one of those who just wants the most high-tech electronics out there, then you should buy this instead of Xbox 360 or Wii. If you are not a hardcore gamer, then you should buy PS3, because it LACKS QUALITY, REPLAYABLE GAMES! And that SMASHES PS3 DOWN THE WIRE! Without quality games, PS3 is just a Blu-ray player good for media entertainment, good for display only! I'll be very honest, if it weren't for the Blu-ray, I'll rate this machine 6! Because this is not a gaming machine, it's good for fun and watching media only! Blu-ray support + gaming = PS3, BUT BE WARNED, YOU CANNOT FIND ENOUGH QUALITY GAMES IN THIS CONSOLE... IF YOU SEARCH THE NET FOR NEWS, COMPANIES ARE SWITCHING TO XBOX 360 FOR PRODUCING THERE GAMES! online gaming is the future! THIS IS A SHAME TO SONY... WHY SONY...WHY? WHAT HAPPENED TO TOPNOTCHED, WIDE VARIETY OF GAMES LIKE WHAT YOU DID IN PS2?????

PS3 is simply great and an added bonus must be its Blu-ray features.

Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: Great visual and audio impact when connected with HDMI cable to LCD TV and Digital optical cable to AV
Cons: One does hear a little sound and it does get warn..... so placing it in a well ventilated cabinet is important. For the time being the only dampener is the high cost of the games. Wish the price goes down.
Opinion:
Got to see the power of this machine when my sons eagerly installed their new PS3, to our family Living room LCD TV. When they played games on the PS3, one cannot help but grasp at the sheer visual effects and the 5.1 surround sound one gets when the PS3 is connected to an A/V system vide a Digital optical cable. So the whole family get together and enjoy the power of this PS3. On weekends my son-in-law brings over his X-box and Wi consoles for the ladies of the house to play "bowling" and "tennis" games on the Wi. But by far, nothing beats the adrenalin rush, one gets when the PS3 is on. Furthermore, its ability to play Blu-Ray discs is an added andvantage as one does not have to buy a stand-alone BD player. I do hear a little sound from the machine, when my son puts it on pause to answer his phone calls, but ... Read more

One heck of a machine, with blu-ray to boot!

Rating: 10 out of 10 (Perfect)
Pros: new 80GB comes with Dual Shock controller as standard
Cons: weigh too much to be lugged around to friend's place!
Opinion:
Hook it to a LCD TV and 5.1 Home theater system, you will enjoy the high definition gaming and surround sound. Get a blu-ray remote (got me free when they had a blu-ray promo), you can enjoy latest blu-ray movies with the family ( that will get your missus off your back for buying, believe me!)
