Sony STR-DA5300ES A/V receiver

Hi,I am a new member and was highly impressed by the review on Sony's latest A/V recevier - STR-DA5300ES.
What made my eyes pop up was that it had "6" HDMI inputs. That aside the other features were also very up to date. I have a query though.
If I connect a HD set-top box to this Sony receiver vide HDMI cable and then connect a HDMI cable out (from the receiver) to the HDTV(1080p) in port vide a HDMI cable ver 1.3 would i be able to
a) receive HD programmes from TV in 1080p. As I understand the broadcast signal from cable operater is 720p.
b)If i connect a Sony Playstation 3 to the monitor vide HDMI cable and run a Digital optic cable from the PS3 to the Digital Optical-in port of this A/V receiver would its latest in built decoders do the necessary conversion for TrueHD sound?
