Samsung SPP-2040

The Samsung SPP-2040 comes with a multitude of connectivity options including PictBridge, 7-in-1 memory card reader and optional Bluetooth with external adapter. However, this compact printer requires a space larger than its body to process print jobs. The unit also needs an AC adapter for it doesn't support battery operations. Furthermore, portability is restricted to the various peripherals that have to accompany the machine for it to actually function.

Design
A dedicated photo printer for your 4 x 6-inch prints, this machine measures 180 x 136 x 66mm--small enough to be stowed away when you don't need it. Our package arrived in an attractive box which houses the boxy machine with its power cable, cassette tray and ribbon cartridge. Although the unit is touted to be portable with a weight of 1.1kg, it does not make any allowances for battery operation or for drawing USB power from a notebook--an AC adapter is required.

The color LCD panel on the printer can be lifted to any of the three preset viewing angles.

Connectivity options--PictBridge, printer cable and AC adapter--are located at the side of the unit.

The SPP-2040 comes with a 640 x 480-pixel LCD panel that can be lifted to any of the three preset viewing angles. A four-way directional pad with a central OK button is accompanied by four smaller dials for zooming purposes, to access the menu, and for canceling tasks. The on/off switch located at the top left hand corner lights up upon receiving power. A dedicated Print button cannot be missed to the right of the main controls.

The cassette tray can be detached from the printer when not in use to save space.

The color cartridge is inserted into a compartment on the right of the unit.

Its cassette tray, though flimsy compared with the solid feel of the printer, holds a maximum of 20 sheets of Samsung photo paper. On the side of the unit are the connections for PictBridge, printer cable and AC adapter. The ribbon cartridge is installed on the right of the unit.
