Fujitsu's upcoming notebooks
By Stephen Tong
08/10/2004

Thursday marked Fujitsu's Winter Launch 2004 which showcased its latest lineup of tablet PCs. We were also given a glimpse of the company's upcoming notebooks which are to be launched this October/November in Singapore.

The star of the show undoubtedly was the LifeBook T4010, a stylish sub-2kg ultraportable that can be swiveled into a tablet PC with a twist of the 12.1-inch screen. Improvements over its predecessor, the T3010, include a hot-swappable optical drive which is exchangeable with other Fujitsu drives such as those of the S-series. The new Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 is used and its processor has been souped up from a Pentium M 1.4GHz to a Pentium M Processor 725 (1.6GHz). Other noticeable changes are the use of the Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG which supports 802.11a/b/g and the presence of Bluetooth.

During the showcase, Microsoft Singapore was present to introduce the new features of its new operating system for tablet PCs. This edition allows deeper pen-and-ink support as well as the ability to display mistakes a lot clearer just like a teacher's pen on a student's work.

Included in the bevy of beauties were five other upcoming notebooks, including the two Stylistic slate-based tablet PCs. The Stylistic ST5020 and LifeBook S7011 stood out for having a fingerprint scanner a la P7010 which was the first LifeBook to incorporate a biometric feature. As for the LifeBook S6230, Fujitsu officials said improvements over the S6220 include the redesign of the casing to allow better ventilation for the Dothan processor. The C2330's and ST5021's enhancements over their predecessors consist of better specifications, though the C2330 also has a more eye-catching design.

Prices for all notebooks were not available at press time as were the specs for the S7011, S6230 and C2330. The tablet PCs are due for release in late October while the other LifeBooks are to be released in late November.
