Light but usable, perfect travel companion
by Sam L - Sep 17, 2005
My work requires frequent traveling, so all I need is a small and light notebook, and at the same time, the screen and keyboard have to be a reasonable size. I have read through reviews and compared R150, the Compaq B1800, the Samsung X05/X06, and the Dell 700m. I bought the R150 because it is remarkablely light, & paid US$1,100 for it in Hong Kong. No CD-rom or whatsoever came in the package which was the major disappointment, but expected. There are plenty of slots... 3 USB, card readers, even PCMCIA. Speed is acceptable, I occasionally have to run freehand and fireworks on this machine, and it performed even better when I added another 512MB of ram. I have managed to squeeze about 240 minutes from the 6-cell battery, which is quite inpressive considering the size and capacity. One word of warning: Although 3 sets of recovery CDs of different languages came with the pack, you can only boot and preform recovery with the Toshiba CD-Rom (I have my Plextor, not working). Anyway, the local dealer Chevalier offers recovery service and 3-yr warranty. Well done.

Pretty Good, Toshiba has never let me down

Wow, you ain't kiddin' if your pinkies get all cramped up reaching for the Delete button. Go back to the R100 with full-size keyboard. Mouse and buttons are cheap and no nub mouse in the middle. Screen is very clear, but because of the screen recess your hands can get in the way of the screen at times. Plenty of USB slots, easy to plug in the overhead projector, like the SD and CF slots, still has a pcmcia slot for my CDMA wireless modem. Feels fast to use, but I haven't messed up the software yet. So new machines always feel like that. Weight is great! My wife will love this computer as she travels a lot and has small hands:)
