The good: Attractive, slim design; includes the G5 chip; wide-screen display; quiet operation; built-in speakers sound better than expected.
The bad: Too little RAM for default configs; positioning of screen not as flexible as on last iMac; still uses a one-button mouse; Wi-Fi and Bluetooth cost extra.
The bottom line: The iMac is as much a design choice as it is a computing choice, perfect for people who need to look good while they work.

My new vacuum cleaner
by Beau Bledsoe - Sep 26, 2005

I do a lot with audio and music and having a fan run right in my face, constantly changing pitches, is driving me nuts. I'm ditching it today. This fan is LOUD and runs most of the time even when the AC is on and the room temp comfy. I can no longer enjoy listening to music in the general location of this design lemon. It's truly sounds like someone vacuuming the floor in the next room.

Creates a new standard

Beautiful design, elegant and simple. Great screen, Superdrive slot easily located on the side, no clutter of cables. OS X Tiger with it's aqua interface is a pleasure for the eye. Once I started using this machine, I must confess it becomes quickly addictive. It works and it works all the time, unlike any experience I had before with PCs. With its ease and simplicity the iMac g5 with OS X Tiger is very suitable for non-technical users. But don't be deceived by these looks, it's all UNIX under the hood, so real geeks can have all the fun they want.
