By John Chan

A press document on HTC's Europe site has revealed which of the Taiwan company's devices will receive official upgrades to Windows Mobile 6 (WM6).

The models that will be upgraded are the ones which HTC defines to be in its line of "messaging" products, which corresponds to those equipped with QWERTY keyboards. One exception is the P3300, which is a PDA-phone with GPS built-in. The list of devices to be upgraded is as follows, with the corresponding Dopod-branded model names in brackets:

An interesting omission from the list is the HTC P3600 (Dopod D810). This handheld comes with up-to-date features like HSDPA and GPS, so it won't become obsolete for some time to come.

But in the same press document, HTC did not rule out the possibility of adding new devices to the list, citing that operators' feedback from their customers will be the deciding factor.

These upgrades for the relevant HTC products in Europe will be rolled out from June, and will be done through the network operators. Furthermore, the license fee for the upgrade will be waived.

When contacted, Dopod told CNET Asia that it is working on the possibility of upgrading its devices to WM6, and will be making the announcement within the next few weeks.
