LAS VEGAS, USA--Last year, one of Samsung's most memorable cameras had to be the
NV24HD which kickstarted the ultra-wide-angle trend in digital imaging. With its 24mm optics, it garnered a fair share of followers. Soon, other brands began to follow suit by offering similarly specced shooters. However, the Korean chaebol still has some tricks up its sleeve to differentiate its latest offerings from the competition.
The HZ10W leads the pack with a 24mm Schneider lens that is capable of zooming 10x. This gives an effective reach of up to 240mm, which makes the shooter suitable for travelers who want the best of both worlds, or should we say, the best of both focal lengths. To appeal to enthusiasts, the HZ10W will have extensive shooting modes including manual exposure controls and a plethora of scene modes for beginners. To sweeten the deal, the megazoom captures 720p-quality (1,280 x 720-pixel) video clips.
For fashionistas, there is the TL100. Measuring a mere 16.6mm thin, it is probably the second slimmest point-and-shoot after Sony's 15mm
Cyber-shot DSC-T77. The 12-megapixel TL100 packs a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.7-inch LCD within its stainless steel svelte frame, but it doesn't cut down on features. There is Smart Auto mode which analyzes the scene and uses the most appropriate exposure settings for that shot.
Non-fussy shutterbugs will probably take a liking to the SL102 and SL420, Samsung's entry-level point-and-shoots. The former has 3x optical zoom and a 2.5-inch display, while the latter offers stronger specifications with 5x optical zoom and a 2.7-inch screen. The two shooters will deliver user-friendly operations with an easy-to-use interface, making them suitable for first-time users, too.
As with most digicams on the market today, the four cameras will have an optical image stabilizer. Features-wise, there is the usual suite of face detection and scene modes to tackle various shooting situations.
