It's a known fact that Canon produces some of the best compact shooters and is one of the few brands people think of first when deciding to buy a point-and-shoot. This is hardly surprising because the Japanese firm has been manufacturing image-capturing devices since 1933 and its name has already rooted itself in consumers' hearts. The problem is that it has so many models and it can be a hassle to sift through all the specifications just to decide which model to buy. So we've done the homework for you, but it's still best to handle and get a good feel of the snapper in stores before swiping your credit card.
The colorful
Canon's Digital IXUS 80 IS is the only IXUS available in more than two hues. While its siblings are clad in either silver or black, the IXUS 80 IS comes in a choice of pink, blue, beige, brown or silver. The optical image stabilizer sweetens the deal.
The long zoom
For the frequent travelers, this for you. With a 5x optical zoom, the Canon Digital IXUS 970 IS has the longest zoom range in the lineup. If you're worried it will leave a bulge in your pocket, fret not--the shooter has not just a sleek design, but also a small footprint to boot.
The all-time favorite
The Canon Digital IXUS 860 IS may be an old model, but it has a 28mm wide-angle lens which not a lot of shooters in the IXUS lineup offer. Also, its superior image quality has Canon loyalists make this camera one of their darlings.
The large screen
Canon's Digital IXUS 90 IS boasts a 3-inch display so everyone can crowd around you to look at what you'd just taken. With anything smaller, it's only a matter of time before your friends hurt their eyes from squinting too much.
The megapixel champion
It's all right if you don't buy the notion of "megapixel isn't everything"--Canon still rolls out high-resolution shooters like the Digital IXUS 960 IS which sports a 12-megapixel sensor. This is more than enough to make A4-sized prints, or a tight crop when shooting portraits.
